Does anybody remember this car? It might look a bit gloomy where it sits now, but this is team Driftspeed and Ueo’s Ex-Formula D RedBull Drifting World Championship car, held back in 2008 in California. It has also run in D1 in Japan and Formula D Stateside. It is now owned by Thomas ‘Thompa’ Pettersson, who is currently rebuilding it for the coming season. It will be a part of some big moves on the Swedish drifting scene, with the JDM-importer and media outlet Superior Imports, getting involved big time.

This is the heart of the beast. Making 500bhp with 600nm cranked out at 1.7bar through the 2.0Liter SR20 Black Top powerplant.

Interior-wise it is strictly business. Toora Bucket’s to go with the Toora Safe6 6-point harnesses, Formula D-spec Rollcage fabricated by Techno Square. And if you have a keen eye, you’ll see a  4 speed Gforce GSR dogbox in there.

Paint wise it’s due for some changes. Although the body will stay mostly the same, with the Wise Square / Behrman bodykit – which is off to a bodyshop to get patched together and prepped for paint.
This is probably the last chance we’re gonna get to see the car as it stands today, with the paintwork it has had since it left America. Off to new and exciting things!

The wheels is it sitting on are Gram Lights 57SPro Polished with Titanium Lip, with a staggered 18×10 and 17×9 setup. Rear and front respectively.

The car was originally built for D1 Grand Prix USA Series by Wise Square and exhibited 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon, Japan. Building completed early 2007 and debut D1 USA Las Vegas.

It was a rainy and a rather boring Sunday afternoon when I got a call from a friend of mine who was also equally bored. He came to pick me up so we could drive around and see if we couldn’t find something to do. That’s when we met Kenneth Groth, the owner of this S13.

We asked him if he was interested in a quick and spontanious shoot (this was totally done on the fly) and he followed us down to the industrial area of Drammen just as the rain cleared and the sun started setting.

Kenneth has been working on this car day and night lately. He was on his way home from a drift event just when we met up. He is always up for a chance to show off and use his car. This guy never sleeps!

I can’t really see a better way to spend a Sunday night.

Awesomefest… Whoa, yeah. I don’t know where to begin!

We Scandinavians are spoilt creatures, we have multiple Gatebil events during the year, and Gatebil has been the event to be at for many years now. On this side of the planet. Not anymore, now Awesomefest is in the mix and a true contender. Sure, this was the first babystep the Driftworks crew have made at arranging this sort of big-scale event. I can safely say they did a fantastic job! I am definitely counting this as one of the must-go-to events for 2012!

So here’s the video of my first ever weekend at Mallory Park, for the first ever AwesomeFest. Although you’ve probably already watched it before you read this. Hope you liked it!

The DriftMonkey crew, myself included have been waiting for this event all year. Rudskogen has been completely rebuilt, though still leaving the old pit-lane straight and “Langsvingen” intact. It’s twice as long and infinitely more exciting. Long swooping corners, tight hairpins, elevation differences and high speed straights proved to be a challange even for the more experienced drivers. Although, after a few hours people started to get to grips with this track and the mayhem could begin to unfold!

DriftMonkey were so lucky to have two special guests this time around. Jarod DeAnda, the Voice of Formula D and Ken Gushi, whom a driver in Formula D came over to put on a show. And man, what a show it was! Definitely the event of the year. If you missed out on it, you missed out big! Always next year though… Be there!
