EVENT: King of Europe Round 1: Austria

Every year, I especially looking forward to the first big competition drift events, because that’s when many new builds that were completed over the winter get revealed and properly drifted in anger for the first time. One such project that didn’t only take one but actually two whole winters (plus the bit in between) was the S14a of Philippe “Dirt Drop Phil” Guillod. It was with him and two more drifters of the Driftteam Switzerland, Florian Zimmermann and Patrick Gafner, that I made the trip to Greinbach in Austria for this year’s King of Europe (KoE) Round 1…

EVENT: D1NZ South Island Style

As some of you may know, our little corner of the world known as New Zealand, is comprised of two islands. Appropriately named the North & South Islands. The Cody’s D1NZ National Drifting Championship spends most of its time in the North Island but every couple of years it heads south. To Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island…

EVENT: Formula DRIFT in the Streets of Long Beach

EVENT: Formula DRIFT in the Streets of Long Beach

As Formula Drift enters its tenth season we can look forward to another calendar jam-packed with world class drivers, cars and, of-course, drifting. If the season opener in Long Beach is anything to go by, this could be the best season so far. Check out what went down within…

EVENTS: Spring Matsuri, Anneau du Rhin

It’s almost a tradition that the season for most of the southwest drifters starts in Anneau. In 2013, Speed Industries hosted their first event in the first week of March. In a time where more and more drift events are getting closed or banned, Anneau du Rhin is one of the last castles that remain. Due to this fact, the cars showing up at Anneau keep getting better and better; many European pro drifters have trained here.

D1NZ 2013 Round 4

EVENT: Cody’s D1NZ 2013 Round Four

Hampton Downs has got to be one circuit that everyone looks forward to on the Cody’s D1NZ season calendar. With its convenient location near NZ’s largest city this brand new track is used frequently as a testing ground for all kinds of motorsport. All the drivers are very familiar with the right-hand entry, switching up and over the hill to a larger left turn and finally a manji style exit on the straight…

D1NZ Round 3

EVENT: Cody’s D1NZ 2013 Round Three

It was hard to find a fault with the plan for Round 3 of the Cody’s D1NZ National Drifting Championship. Held in sunny Tauranga on another technically challenging, custom built circuit it was bound to be a success from the get go. However it was the first time a drift event had been held in Tauranga city and nobody was sure what kind reaction the event would receive.

EVENT: Cody’s D1NZ 2013 Round Two

It’s been far too long since I last got out amongst some drifting, over half a year in fact. Tuning in to online coverage of overseas events has been great but there’s nothing quite like attending an event yourself and taking in the atmosphere on offer. That’s why I was looking forward to Round 2 of the Cody’s D1NZ Championship held in Whangarei on a new custom built track, with many rebuilt and redesigned cars for the 2012/2013 season.

EVENT: KD European Drift Lousada 2012 Part II

EVENT: KD European Drift Lousada 2012 Part II

After attending the annual Lousada drift event for the past few years you think I’d be prepared for the mental and physical onslaught that is shooting it. Don’t get me wrong, I love drifting but after 18 hours solid of it, followed by four to five hours sleep I was less than ‘chipper’ when the alarm sounded for day two of the event. Come 9:00am I was back at the track, batteries full, memory cards empty, enthusiasm slightly less than brimming….but at least I had coffee.

EVENT: KD European Drift Lousada 2012

EVENT: KD European Drift Lousada 2012

Once a year the small Portuguese municipality of Lousada acts as a Mecca for those drivers wanting to see out the drift season in style. Throw in a steel-lined technical track and run late into the night and you have a recipe for some truly amazing drifting…

EVENT: Cody's D1NZ 2013 Round One

EVENT: Cody’s D1NZ 2013 Round One

The Cody’s D1NZ National Drifting Championship is back! Round 1 kicked off the new season last weekend at Manfield Park Raceway, located in Fielding, New Zealand. It was an action packed beginning to the series and thankfully the weather was on our side, two days in a row of sun in unusual for New Zealand at the moment…

EVENT: Formula Drift Championship Finale

EVENT: Formula Drift Championship Finale

At the beginning of the season, motorsport fans were shocked to hear that the “House of Drift” was no longer going to host any events for the 2012 season. Thankfully, things worked out and fans were treated to the season finale of the Formula Drift pro championship.

EVENT: Prodrift: Japfest: The End of an Era

This may be possibly the last ever Prodrift event as we know it, next year the Irish series is to be branded as the Irish Drift Championship as we can only assume the Prodrift brand may be taking a new step in broadening it’s status abroad, for that I’m not sure, either way a part of me felt compelled to to give the icon that is Prodrift the send off it deserves…

EVENT: Crazy Karpacz Touge, Poland

EVENT: Crazy Karpacz Touge, Poland

or those who don’t know, Touge is the Japanese word for a winding mountain road. That is where the drifting started. It is currently the fastest growing motorsport and certainly every fan of drifting would love to see a competition on winding mountain roads. Surely this is the same thing that inspired organizers of the Polish Drifting Championship (DMP) last year, who decided to do a round in Karpacz, the small town located in the Polish mountains…

EVENT: EEDC 2012 x Drift Allstars: Mariapocs

I have to admit, going to Hungary I’ve had split feelings – on one hand we had an opportunity to see how our (EEDC) drivers look going against “Drift AllStars” , probably the best drivers in Europe, a Hungarian drift culture which always had a lot of sexual content within it, and a worrisome night stage on a track which from videos looked slow and narrow… I was not sure what to expect.
