Grassroots
That should have said “2011 in review” But come on, that was over 3 months ago! Busy have I been these past few months, but I was finally able to get all this together and either way, couldn’t resist showcasing some of my favorite photos from last season no matter how many months into the new year it is.
David Hintze takes a road trip to the scenic Pat’s Acre Racing Complex for a grassroots drift day against an amazing autumnal backdrop. Warning – you may well get track-envy!
The final drift event of the season at Evergreen Speedway was held a couple of weeks ago, marking the end of another great season. We have seen many local drivers turn pro and go on to compete in the big leagues, names such as Walker Wilkerson will be talked about a lot next year and this track has become proving grounds for many a drift star of the future.
Thank goodness it’s Movember and I have this nice bushy mustache to keep my upper lip warm, because the final Capital City Drift practice day was a chilly one.
Drift day on September 10th! Dope! This event was hosted by Wayne Lee from Drift-Ops and the Coolkids club. A bunch of good dudes that make it possible for us Southern Ontario peeps to get out there and freshen up on our driving skills, and have a good time!

New Zealand’s newest race track, Hampton Downs, located just south of Auckland played host to a grassroots drift day last weekend. This new facility has been used a lot for drifting recently, as it has a large concrete skid pad and also a full race track…
The few Vancouver Island guys that have made it out to our mainland drift days always tell us to come out and check out their events on the Island. Vancouver Island has always been a place I love to visit and I hadn’t been there for a few years, so I decided to take this free weekend to skip across the Straight of Georgia to Victoria to check out the Island scene.
The locals at Evergreen Speedway, Monroe WA are used to wet practice days but they weren’t prepared for the flood that hit the track at Open Drift recently. Bring a paddle….
This past weekend, after a long winter, the Kelowna drift scene finally popped out of hibernation when Drift Union and Penticton Speedway hosted D-Day 13.
Team S Club are a group of friends (mainly with old Toyotas!) that run regular grassroots days on the run-off of our local dragstrip here in New Zealand. Meremere Dragway has a large run-off/breaking area that is perfect for days like this.

Every year Evergreen Speedway puts on a drift school to help drivers new to the sport get their cars as slideways as possible.
The sun was out, i had a free day off work, and Santa pod had drifting on. Perfect way to spend a bank holiday monday. Having missed out on the first round of the British Drift Championship, I had an urge to go and watch and photograph some drifting…
Agassiz’s Speedway is a simple oval, two corners and two straights, but it is small and tight… and notorious for taking out cars. Most often, inexperienced drivers panic and hit the brakes, understeering into the wall. But even pros, who have been drifting the track since 2007 when Cell Block D started have had their share of mishaps here….
With the day off work I had a few hours to spare so I decided to pop on over to a full circuit drift day that was going on over at Mallory Park. Take the jump to see a few snaps from the day.
Sunday the 27th of March saw us return to Buxton Raceway in the Derbyshire peaks for the first Drift ONE event in 2011. Drifting in the UK is starting to awake from its winter hibernation and it was a good opportunity to get back into the swing of things and see what the ring of steel had in store.
