Gee was out there too in his sweet PS13 Silvia, I heard this car has pretty much the entire Ikeya Formula catalog underneath!

6:30AM when my friend Roo came to pick me up to start the 45 minute drive to Auckland’s newest track, Hampton Downs. Drift Motorspot NZ was working with D1NZ on this particular day, and there was some people trying to qualify for New Zealands national drift series, D1NZ.

(Above) Joel from C’s Garage‘s car was looking good as usual, With the new blue tints especially.

Adam was too.

This PFL was doing it right.

Cole Armstrong was also there having a play, This car sounds wicked!

Hugo from SeventeenBySeven invited me to take some pictures of him drifting as his friends own personal go-kart track. It was alot of fun to shoot at, and Hugo’s car sounds amazing.
Hugo’s car is an AE85, with a turbocharged F20c making 230rwkw. I took a few videos, So I’ll chuck them up on Vimeo or YouTube a bit later.

The DMAX front bumper and fiberglass bonnet were removed to try and help keep the engine from getting too hot on the small track.

Yes, That is a Justin Bieber sticker. He’s awesome.

Adam from C’s Garage

After drinking copious amounts of alcohol until the early hours of Saturday morning, the last thing I wanted to do was spend all day around rev limiters, screamer pipes, screeching tires and Bee*R’s. BUT, I did, and I’m glad I did, thanks to Roo getting me there.

There’s not many drift days at Pukekohe Park Raceway these days due to noise limits, so when they do come along, there’s many people coming out of the woodwork to drive. A few D1NZ drivers came out to play, causing massive smoke screens and fast drifting.

There was some unusual cars there, including this old Mitsi VR4 that was doing pretty well.

Sam Groombridge’s R32 is by far my favorite car, with some awesome Weds SA-70′s looking too cool. This photo was taken seconds before his gearbox decided to packup and die.

The Garage H guys were there yet again. This car seems to go to 90% of the events we have in New Zealand. The brothers Nick and Simon are making a 10+ hour trip to head down to Christchurch for a drift day this weekend.

Overall, the day was good, but I really can’t wait until the D1NZ season starts to watch some real close battling!

I woke to a sun shining crisp winters morning with my buddy Roo waiting to pick me up so we could head down to the D-SPEC skid day. As we got there, Jack (the owner of this Zenki) was taking to the track. Unfortunatly, the tire on the front left had come off the bead and sent jack understeering into some bumpy terrain.

Unfortunatly they couldn’t get the tyre back onto the bead, so the guys at Garage H kindly let jack borrow some wheels to chuck of the fronts so he could contiune drifting for the rest of the day.

All of a sudden the weather turned to shit, and the clouds came out and the temperture dropped.

Percy’s Type-X was tearing up once again, taking the heavy down pour in his stride pulling some good angles.

The sun then came out and dried up the track for some better driving.

Gee Mutch was also there in his widebody D1 GDB. As you can see this thing has been converted to RWD and is a smoke machine!

This S13 was amazing, I’ve never seen the car before, and don’t know anything about it, but he was driving very well all day, Loving the wing!

There was also some old school stuff there, This DX Corolla was one of them. I’ve only ever seen this thing on the drag strip, so it was good to see it drifting for once.

This E30 was awesome! Was putting out clouds of smoke all day, untill, It caught on fire!

This Soarer was quite cool, Had widebody overs, big single pipe exhaust, sounded too good.

Andrew Choy was driving his S15 very well throughout the day. This has to be one of the most reliable cars I’ve seen.

This AE was doing well all day, sounds awesome!

This FC is LOUD! I’ve heard he’s making big power too, Maybe I should do a feature on this car?

This 180 was a smoke machine all day, very regressive driving!

2009 was a huge year for me, I learnt so much and from so many people. I traveled to as many events as I could, and came away with a bunch of okay-ish pics, and a tonne more experience than I previously had.

In 2009, I went to many driver training days held by Driftopia. These are real laid back and extremely fun, whilst drivers can learn a lot from experienced drivers on hand to give advice.

I also managed to get to a few D1NZ events in 09.

Already in 2010, I’ve been to a few grass root drifting days at New Zealands newest track, Hampton Downs. This track is amazing, With many blind corners long wide sweepers, with some elevation changes thrown in the mix.

I hope to get more NZ content out there to you guys, so keep an eye out for more posts in the near future!
