With the 2013 season of Formula Drift looming on the horizon, I decided there would be no better time than the present to start dropping footage from 2012.
Alright, so maybe that’s not the only reason that I couldn’t get any footage out till now, but that certainly was a good push to crank out the footage I gathered from last year and never got a chance to edit.
Kenneth Nornes out of RFS Performance in his Nissan Skyline R34. The trusted 2JZ, cranking out 713hk og 967nm where the rubber meets the pavement, sits within this Japanese thoroughbred from the land of the rising sun.
Norway is perhaps the leading country when it comes to drifting Supra’s, and Alvin Lægreid is up there with the best of them.
Swedish longtime JDM-importer and multi-faceted lifestyle/media company Superior Imports AB arranged its own meet closed for friends, supporters and partners late last summer.
This is the mayhem that ensued, keep an eye on the Superior FB-page for updates leading to Superior Spring Meet 2013 that promises to be even wilder
The second episode of GIR: Gutten i Røyken is from Gatebil September, where Kenneth Groth explains what makes it so special.
Ever watched a video and thought, “Man, they must have cameras EVERYWHERE”? Sometimes that’s not far from the truth. Filming drifting has become pretty serious business as of late, and even at grassroots events you can find photographers and videographers cruising around with some pretty serious gear. I took this opportunity to buck the trend and shoot 1 Camera / 1 Drift Day. Enjoy!
The first of many episodes to come, where we follow Kenneth Groth through his drifting experiences. He drives the AutoMester S13, 450bhp SR20 and is a madman behind the wheel. This episode consists of the mad-dash to rebuild a new car after a crash, in less than two weeks before the main event of the season, Gatebil Rudskogen, in July.
A short promo shot for the new Swedish drifting team Superior Drift at Tierp Arena in Sweden. This is their first year, with freshly built cars, one is an ex-Red Bull FD car. Check it out!
Gatebil, as ever, is the go-to event of the year. 50 000 car-crazed people from all over the world join together to make the biggest and baddest car event on this side of the hemisphere. This year, was absolutely no different. New Zealand, England, Germany, Russia, Italy, Finland, USA, just some of the countries represented out on the track that weekend. Alongside the ‘regulars’ from Norway and Sweden. What does all that mean? Absolute and utter pandemonium out on the track… And off track.
After the success of last years Drift Union Invitational, I was inspired at this year’s DUI to try and create a video that would dive a little deeper into the hidden gem that is Western Canada’s drift scene. I wanted to make something more than just a short video, a mini-documentary of sorts. Something that could give you an insight into the minds of the drivers, show what goes on through the full weekend, the ups the downs, the drifting, the partying… an all encompassing video that is: The Drift Union Invitational.
A few weeks back there was a small arrangement at a local track where drivers could drive for free, and take passanger rides to raise money for a good cause.
It was a great day, beautiful weather, lots of people and most importantly, it looked like the drivers and passangers had a lot of fun!
Danmark Hurtigste Bil, or rather how us Norwegians like to call it: Mini-Gatebil. A 3-day event held in the southend of Denmark at a closed down bit of airfield. Scratch that, multiple airfields…
The first Gatebil event of 2012. And boy was it a hot one!
Not much to say, only that this was maybe the best start of a season one could ever get. Great people, great driving, beer, sun all weekend (for once..) and so much fun!
We got tired of making the stereotypical drift video. So, we did some brainstorming and came up with the idea of making a cheesy music video at a Formula Drift event. We chose the infamous song Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen and we began filming. We just chose random FD fans/staff/drivers to lip sync the song and I can say without a doubt that this was the most fun I’ve ever had shooting a video; it just goes to show that the fun at drift events isn’t confined to the track!
As Palm Beach looms, 1KIND Studio recaps on Walker Wilkerson’s voyage to the Final 4 at Road Atlanta in the Garage Autohero, Falken Tire, Fatlace S13.4.
