Just so you know this will not be a formal write up on FD Round 2 2011 in Atlanta, Ga. The reason is because well, everyone already knows what happened in Atlanta. The Road to the Championship is what they call it and oh how it is a perfect name for this event. Atlanta brings the most energetic crowd, drivers and even media….
Ok, one thing that will be evident at the end of this feature is that I am no rotary expert, therefore I will not pretend to be such an expert, so best off to Wikipedia or the likes if you looking for a statistic filled technical report on rotary engines. Sorry it won’t be found here. However, I do know a cool car when I see one, and Simon Connaughtons FC3s series RX7 is just that.
That should have said “2011 in review” But come on, that was over 3 months ago! Busy have I been these past few months, but I was finally able to get all this together and either way, couldn’t resist showcasing some of my favorite photos from last season no matter how many months into the new year it is.
Does anybody remember this car? It might look a bit gloomy where it sits now, but this is Ueo’s Ex-Formula D RedBull Drifting World Championship car, held back in 2008 in California. It has also run in D1 in Japan and Formula D Stateside.
With Ireland’s Prodrift series going from strength to strength in 2011 and the Irish building and importing some of the finest cars on this side of the planet, Drifted’s Damien O’Connor had his work cut out covering the Emerald Isle by himself! It’s time to check out his 2011 in Pictures!
Last year offered up so many great opportunities that I couldn’t squeeze them all into one post so here’s is Part II of my 2011 in pictures. The crests and curves in Scotland, international stars at Silverstone, drifting in the heart of London and the madness of the Lousada drift festival. I think I need 2012 off to recover! Check it out after the jump.
We continue our look back at 2011 with Germany’s Fabian Linder as he recaps on a great year for the IDS series and an indication of a promising future for drifting in mainland Europe with less of the politics and more of the fun!
It’s the turn of the young Norwegian Daniel Hovdahl to recap on the adventures he’s taken in 2011. Gatebil, Awesomefest and juggling between photo and video isn’t easy, but it doesn’t look like he’s regretted a moment of it! Click through for his insight of the past year.
I’m sure I say it every year but, what an amazing year! Believe it or not we’re heading into our third year of Drifted here, an idea that was rather hastily conceived back in November 2009 to fill a void we saw in good quality, self generated drift coverage and content. The key phrases for us were, and still are, self-generated and quality. My favourite shots of 2011 may not all contain drifting as you know it, but for me they sum up the feelings and emotions experienced this year in drifting.
With 2011 pretty much in the bag as far as drifting is concerned we take a look back at the defining moments of the year through the eyes of our photographers. The UK’s Ian Gratton is first up with what has proved to be an incredibly busy year. Hostile conditions, missed flights and wild dog pack attacks; who says the life of a drift photographer isn’t exciting?
It’s pretty difficult to be different these days, even when it comes down to choosing a suitable chariot to turn into a competitive drift machine. This is where Jareck ‘Jeek’ Frederico and his BMW 5 Series V8 E39 comes in.
My sole duty on this site is to try and represent, to the viewers of this site, the Irish side of all things Drifted if you will. Therefore I thought it was time we starting sharing together our love for the ’86′.
It feels like an eternity since I’ve sat down to drop a cool feature, work commitments have really eaten up a few hectic months of my life but one could have worst complaints, given my brief absence I felt what I came back with would have to be something altogether a little special, a little unique, well thanks to Mr.Kazama and Paul Kane, we bring you just that !
