Driving Game Reveals The Dangers Of Distractions
What harm can it do to take your eyes off the road for just a few seconds to see who was sent you a text message? A new online game reveals just how much danger you can put yourself in by doing something like this. Driven To Distraction has been created by the UK motoring company KwikFit after they found that many road users still admit to checking their phone behind the wheel. It seeks to highlight the hazards that drivers present to themselves and other road users when they are not paying full attention to the road.
The game asks you to focus as you are driving down a simulated road and click on the screen as soon as you see the stop sign. The game will record how long it takes you to react when you see the sign, which is the same amount of time it would take you to slam on the brakes. The game then requires you to do the same thing, but this time, you have to answer a series of questions that pop up on a phone in the corner of the screen. The business found that most of the people who play the game take up to one or two seconds longer to react when they are distracted.
One or two seconds may not sound like much, but it can be the difference between life or death in many road situations. This is especially the case when roads are slippery from rainfall or are covered in ice and snow during the winter. After all, Kwik Fit also created a shocking video earlier this year which reveals that drivers can take twice as long to stop on a wet road in an emergency and ten times as long in snow and ice. So if you are someone who is prone to checking their phone whilst driving, Driven To Distraction might just encourage you to change your behaviour.
