Summary

Top Speed Racing 3D is a massive open-world browser game that provides drifting, racing, stunts, and parkour in a huge playground. You get 19 cars ranging from muscle cars and widebody drift builds to supercars and off-road 4x4s, all ready to explore the surprisingly vast map.

As you explore the free-roam areas, you’ll notice it splits into different environments where you can cruise the city streets, then hit up the airport for massive runways and crazy stunts, or head off-road into the rural desert dunes and rocky mountains. Each zone offers its own unique set of challenges, from drift events and time trials to speed traps and crazy parkour courses where you’ll navigate and jump over a variety of obstacles on top of shipping containers.

You get the option of grippy racing (handling like it’s on rails) or slidey drifting, depending on which mode you toggle, or the challenge you choose. The graphics are clean and impressive, especially the car models.

You also get in-depth tuning and customization, from paint and wheels to stance adjustments, and several performance upgrades that transform your ride.

Screenshot – Whoops – crashing into the bus stop under the nighttime street lighting. Don’t try this in the real world, it won’t end well!

New missions and challenges unlock as you complete the events, and the day/night cycle adds even more variety that’s rarely seen in free online games.

Given everything Top Speed 3D has to offer, it’s easy to see why Drifted fans feel it’s one of the best browser games on the site if you want freedom to mess around without being locked into a single game mode.

Top Speed Racing 3D features

Physics

The handling varies significantly depending on the settings you choose.

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 21
Screenshot – Throwing down a huge angle backward entry in the Lambo (yes, I did make it!)

With Grip mode enabled, the car handles like it’s on rails, with predictable all-wheel-drive traction that’s great for time trials and racing. Switch to Drift mode, and the car gets super slidey.

While it’s fun, it lacks the super-grippy, natural tire feel you get from more realistic games like Drift Hunters MAX, but it’s still satisfying once you get used to the floaty feel. You’ll want to lift off the throttle at times to avoid building too much momentum.

There’s also cosmetic damage where your car gets increasingly mangled big after crashes, but don’t panic – you can reset it with a button press. The damage physics aren’t as impressive as stunt and crash games like Deadly Descent, where your body panels and wheels actually fall off, and the real challenge becomes reaching the finish line in one piece!

Graphics

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 22
Screenshot – Sparks fly as it turns out the slammed widebody BRZ might not have been the best choice for heading to the mountains. Who would’ve thought?

The car models here are stunning for a browser game, especially on high settings. When you begin cruising around, you’ll soon realize the sheer scale of the map is super impressive, offering a huge variety of terrain, ranging from the smooth city streets to desert landscapes and rocky off-road sections where you truly get to put the 4x4s to the test.

Admittedly, some buildings don’t look perfect, but who cares when you’re hooning around at high speed. As you progress, you’ll notice the sick day/night cycle too, another feature that’s rare to see in a browser game. At night, it feels kinda similar to UNBOUNDED, but this one is brighter with more prominent street lighting, where UNBOUNDED goes all-in on the atmospheric vibes.

How to play Top Speed Racing 3D

Initial setup

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 23
Screenshot – What you’ll be greeted with when you first open Top Speed Racing 3D.

The main menu doubles up as your garage, with the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ already selected as your free starter car (not bad, huh?). Top-left has the settings cog for graphics adjustments (Low/Medium/High). High is recommended if your PC can handle it, but it still looks great on lower settings.

The top-right shows your bank balance and gem count, with a plus button for earning optional free money and gems through ads.

Left and right arrows in the center let you browse the full 19-car roster, with stats displayed for ‘Speed’, ‘Handling’, and ‘Off-road’ capability.

The garage offers ‘Upgrade’ (performance/tuning mods) and ‘Customize’ (visual modifications). We’ll cover these in-depth below.

Getting started

Click ‘Drive’ in the bottom-right, and you’ll spawn onto the city streets ready to explore.

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 24
Screenshot – Once you’ve turned on drift mode, you can start throwing down huge angles and running walls. It’s also advised to turn ABS and ESP off eventually for the most realistic experience.

In the top-left of the game screen, you’ll see a ‘Grip’ button. Click it to toggle between ‘Grip’ and ‘Drift’ modes.

  • Grip mode switches your car to all-wheel drive for maximum traction, perfect for stunts, time trials, and high-speed runs.
  • Drift mode makes the car super slidey and perfect for sideways action.

You can also toggle ‘ABS’ (Anti-lock Braking System) and ‘ESP’ (Electronic Stability Programme) assists on or off for even more control (or chaos, depending on your skill level!)

As you drive around, you might notice the world looks cloudy in places. In some basic browser games, this might mean the end of the road, but it’s just fog in the vast expanse on offer in Top Speed 3D, and doesn’t mean you can’t go there.

Keep an eye out for the signposts scattered around the city to reach different areas, such as ‘Airport’, ‘Off-Road’, and ‘Port’.

Glowing rings and events

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 25
Screenshot – The glowing areas show the various challenges and mini-games. Or, you can just drift around to earn money for now if you wish.

As you cruise around, you’ll spot glowing rings indicating a variety of different events and levels. When you find an event you fancy, stop your car in the ring to see what reward you’ll earn, then click Start to begin.

Events include:

  • Drift – Follow checkpoints while drifting, while keeping your eye on the score requirement to advance
  • Time Trial – Race through checkpoints and reach the finish line within the time limit
  • Parkour – Navigate over bonkers obstacle courses on top of containers (no time limit)

These get more challenging than you might expect, and will truly test your skills. But, if you fail the objectives, don’t panic – you’ll get as many retries as you need.

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 26
Screenshot – Once you’ve unlocked the Nitro upgrade, you’ll get this meter appear on the left. Use the F key (NOT L Shift as it claims) to unleash the boost.

Nitro usage – Once you’ve opted for the upgrade, Nitro (F key) is super useful for instant speed boosts, but use it wisely, as it takes a while to refill. You can monitor how much you have left by watching the gauge that appears on the left once you’ve fitted the Nitro kit.

Best practice is to use nitro on straights (when racing) or at corner exits, rather than mid-corner, especially in drift events where boosting on exit might prevent you from understeering into the nearest wall!

Handbrake technique – Use the handbrake (Space key) sparingly as an angle tool or to quickly lock up the wheels. Tap it to help initiate a drift or tighten your line mid-drift, then release and steer/countersteer to hold the slide. Don’t hold it down constantly, or you’ll scrub off too much speed.

Game modes

Free Roam

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 27
Screenshot – Navigate wherever you please. You can drift to your heart’s content, or head off-road to some huge ramps and crazy jumps. Your call!

This is the default mode where you’ll cruise (or drift) around the open world looking for events, speed traps, cash pickups, and gem collectibles. You can smash into lampposts, bus stops, and pretty much everything. The exceptions are buildings (duh) and the area signposts (pointing to Airport, etc.), as they’re completely solid and you’ll smash into them.

Crashing into objects causes plenty of cosmetic damage, making your car look increasingly beat up over time. If you want to get it looking pretty again, you can press the ‘Spanner’ icon in the top-right to get a free instant repair.

Drift

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 28
Screenshot – The bashed and beaten Lambo navigates through the Drift challenge, with the ‘INSANE DRIFT!’ combo racking up the cash earnings for new cars and upgrades.

Follow the glowing checkpoints while maintaining your most impressive drifting skills to rack up points and distance. Your earnings are shown under “bonus” and are added to your bank balance when you finish. Your distance is what adds up to become the final score. The challenge increases with each level as tracks get shorter and obstacles appear more frequently, and it really does get hard.

You’ll soon realize that consistency is everything here if you want to advance. Focus on linking the corners together and maximizing every meter of drift rather than throwing down massive angles that’ll break your flow.

Wall taps (or crashes) don’t kill your score (as long as you don’t come to a complete stop), so you can whack the barriers and containers without losing your earnings.

If you want more realistic drifting physics, Drift Hunters MAX is the ultimate drift simulator with a huge 39-car roster, loads of tracks, Drift Attack mode (with clipping points), AI traffic, and online leaderboards. For lower-spec devices that can’t run MAX, the classic Drift Hunters game is a perfect entry-level alternative.

Time Trial

Race through the checkpoints within the time limit, with Grip mode automatically enabled for maximum traction. The arrows aren’t always clear where you’re headed, so you need to stay alert and keep your eyes peeled for the next checkpoint. If you haven’t hit a checkpoint in the last few seconds, you’ve probably gone the wrong way and might need to hit reset.

The grippy, fast-paced handling feels somewhat similar to Polytrack, currently the most popular racing game on the site, where you’ll obsess over shaving milliseconds off lap times for global leaderboard spots. If you’ve enjoyed the racing modes here and want to take it to the next level with the ultimate time attack challenge, Polytrack is well worth a try.

Parkour

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 29
Screenshot – One of the many challenges you’ll encounter in Parkour, with increasing levels of difficulty and things to figure out. You’ll need to be patient in this one.

These create mini stunt arenas with all sorts of obstacles, including rotating boards, spinning objects, no-gravity zones, and super-tight platforms on shipping containers.

Narrower Off-road vehicles often work best here since you need precise slow-speed control rather than speed. There’s no time limit to worry about – the goal is simply reaching the finish without falling off, which is way harder than it sounds.

If you enjoyed the parkour/stunt aspect of the game, we think you’ll love Madalin Stunt Cars 3, which offers a huge selection of stunts along with multiplayer online so you can play with your friends across the open world map. That’s not all, you also get 34 cars, all of which are unlocked from the start.

Speed Traps

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 30
Screenshot – Bagging the $1000 reward for hitting 120 mph in the city. Thankfully, there’s no traffic to worry about, so get your best run up and give it your best shot. Nitrous is a big help here, but comes at a cost.

Drive through the camera zones at the required speed for instant cash rewards. You’ll see signs showing the target speed, so plan your run-up accordingly. It’s similar to Forza Horizon’s speed camera system, which many of you will undoubtedly be familiar with.

There’s no online multiplayer in this game, but Drift King is the hottest free multiplayer drifting game option right now, with excellent physics and fantastic tracks.

Alternatively, Drift Hunters Pro (from the same team as Drift King) offers the same multiplayer experience, but with a 90s JDM focus featuring the Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7 FD, Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, and 240SX S14/S15 Silvias, whereas Drift King is more supercar-focused.

You can also check out the multiplayer games selection for many more options.

Tuning and upgrades

Six performance categories are available, each with multiple upgrade levels:

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 31
Screenshot – Top Speed 3D offers of the most comprehensive tuning modes of any browser game, along with many upgrade tiers to unlock on each.
  • Engine – Increases top speed and acceleration
  • Turbo – Adds forced induction power for added boost
  • Tires – Improves traction, grip, and handling
  • Transmission – Optimizes the gear ratios
  • Suspension – Improves handling
  • Nitro – Extends boost duration and power

If you’re saving for a specific car, sometimes it’s better to skip upgrades and put that money toward your dream machine.

Customization

There’s one of the most impressive customization systems in any browser game:

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 32
Screenshot – There’s a great selection of wheels, from muscle car classics to deep-dish JDM Work Meister-style options.

Rims ($3,000) – A huge selection of wildly different styles, along with wheel size adjustment from ‘S’ to ‘L’, with seven sizes on offer.

Paint (Various prices) – Paint individual components (full body $1,000, rims $1,000, caliper $50, hood $100, roof $100) with full color palettes and glossiness sliders.

Window tint ($200) – Choose your color and slide the depth from 0% to 100%.

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 33
Screenshot – Adding some hilarious fitment to the Lambo. At least it’ll be a bit more prepared for off-roading!

Tuning stance ($2,000) – Adjust camber (0% to 100%) and ride height. You can only set the camber for all four wheels at once, and there’s no positive camber. This isn’t as detailed as Drift Hunters MAX, where you can modify the front and rear separately (and much more), but still decent. Consider your ride height based on your plans – slammed drift cars look sweet, but will definitely struggle off-road.

Vinyls

  • Plain ($2,000) – Racing stripes, flames, and partial body designs
Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 34
Screenshot – Fancy something different? These ‘Colorful’ designs offer a great selection of different designs.
  • Colorful ($2,500) – Multi-color designs
Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 35
Screenshot – If you want to go all-out, opt for the Camo wrap. I’m not sure this would struggle to be seen, though!
  • Camouflage ($2,500) – Full-body camo wraps with adjustable colors.

Advanced tips & tricks

Make sure you explore every area and its unique challenges

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 36
Screenshot – This is how NOT to slide your way around the obstacles! Needless to say, it takes some practice.

‘City’, ‘Airport’, and ‘Port’ each offer completely different challenges and terrain. Events change based on location: you’ll need to swerve around heavy machinery in drift mode at Port, but you’ll need to avoid buildings, lamp posts, and bus stops in the City. Match your car to the environment for best results.

Link the corners for maximum drift earnings

In ‘Drift’ events, focus on consistent transitioning between the corners and building combos rather than trying to be a hero by pulling off backward entries (you can do that in free roam!). Your distance accumulates throughout the run, so every meter counts here. Spending time driving straight means you’re missing potential points, and you’ll likely fail the level.

Turn off the assists when you’re ready

ESP helps beginners maintain control when getting started, but turning it off provides you with much more freedom to pull off big angles and attempt backies. Start with the assists on, then disable them once you’re comfortable with the physics.

Manage your nitro carefully (once unlocked)

Don’t hold it constantly. Save it for corner exits in Drift events, or use it in the Time Trials when you need to make up time. It refills fairly quickly, but not as fast as you might expect from other games.

Keep your eyes peeled for collectibles

Top Speed Racing 3D - Image 37
Screenshot – Gems are unpainted and easily missed if you’re not paying attention. Thankfully, the cash piles are a bit more obvious.

Cash piles and gems will often appear around the map while you’re cruising. Gems are particularly valuable since you need hundreds to unlock premium cars, so grab them whenever you spot them.
