Five New Cars Are Coming To Gran Turismo 7, But Are They Worth Driving?

Gran Turismo 7’s next update is expected to arrive on September 25, and it won’t come as a huge surprise that we’re once again getting a mixed bag with some questionable choices.

Kaz Yamauchi dropped his usual silhouette teaser featuring five cars, following the Gran Turismo World Series event in Berlin, where they announced a new official Dunlop tire partnership.

If I’m being honest, the lineup feels like the typical quantity-over-quality approach again, but there might be a couple that’ll get you excited.

What’s expected to arrive with the latest update

Here are the five cars that we expect to arrive for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players on September 25.

Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R

Easily our favorite pick of the bunch. While the rear-wheel drive ND MX-5 isn’t new to the game, this Japan-only limited edition should be the new top pick for JDM fans.

This special edition is limited to just 200 units and capable of 200 horsepower in stock form, which Ikuo Maeda, Head of Mazda Spirit Racing, says is “the maximum power we can currently extract from a production model Mazda MX-5 engine.”

Given that the current Mazda Roadster NR-A can accommodate the R26B 4-rotor swap from the 787B, we hope the same will be true here. If so, expect this to be an awesome drifter capable of producing epic smoke clouds!

Previously teased a couple of weeks ago, this all-wheel-drive EV hot hatch concept brings wild aero alongside mind-blowing performance.

On tap is 788 horsepower and 590 lb-ft torque from its electric motors, hitting 0-62 mph in just two seconds with a 199 mph top speed. It’s certainly a little different from the hot hatches that were popular in my teens!

Hyundai Elantra N

Joining the Ioniq 5 N EV is Hyundai’s petrol-powered 2.0-liter turbo performance sedan alternative, and the Korean brand’s answer to the Civic Type R.

Unfortunately, it’s front-wheel drive, so no drifting here (unless you can find a McDonald’s tray update.) A slight caveat is that it looks to be the TCR special edition with added aero and upgraded brakes.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

While not exactly our top pick for track racing, it’s not the worst addition either. Since we already have the Willys Jeep, which is plenty of fun, we don’t expect it to deliver much more.

Toyota RAV4

And here’s where things (once again) get questionable – another dull SUV.

While it might be a global best-seller, it’s certainly not going to be the top pick for GT7 players. Following the pattern of boring additions, this appears to be the 5th-gen hybrid or PHEV offering with electric AWD – another hard pass.

Each update brings the usual complaints from fans about bizarre inclusions rather than cars enthusiasts actually want. At least there’s some quality mixed in this time; we just hope the Miata will get some fun engine swaps!
