James Bond Makes A Clutch-Kicking Comeback In New 007 Game
Table of Contents
After over a decade, we’re finally getting a new Bond game, ‘007 First Light’. Currently, there’s only an announcement trailer, but we’re already blown away by the amount of drifting we’ve witnessed.
The very first opening scene features Bond driving an old-school Aston Martin DBS, thrashing it with some proper clutch-kicking action as smoke pours from the rear wheels while he throws it around on the twisty mountain roads. Now we’re talking!

One of the first things we noticed is that the driving scenes mostly look like they could be actual gameplay footage, with Bond chasing a villain in a red Jaguar XK (X150).

The chase takes them across a variety of terrains, all while smashing through various objects. We wouldn’t expect anything less!
There’s Already Much More Than Just The Hero Car

Beyond the hero DBS, there’s also a bonkers Triumph motorcycle fitted with a flamethrower (because why not?), and what looks like the new Aston Martin Valhalla under wraps in Q’s workshop.

If that’s not enough selection, there’s also a sequence where Bond drives a garbage truck, scraping his way through a tunnel that’s clearly too narrow for it. It’s certainly not your typical Bond car!
We’ve also spotted a Land Rover Defender in some scenes, rounding out what appears to be a wide variety of automotive options, and we expect to see even more in the final game.

Despite the initial trailer being just over three minutes long, it has certainly got us excited for what’s to come. Assuming all the cars are actually drivable rather than just cutscenes, of course.
The Youngest Bond Yet

007 First Light is an origin story featuring Bond at just 26 years old, the youngest we’ve ever seen him.
He starts as a Royal Navy air crewman before an act of bravery lands him in MI6’s training program.
The game follows his journey to earning the “00” status, which explains why he’s driving like he’s got something to prove!
What To Expect From The Game

IO Interactive (the Danish team behind Hitman) is developing 007 First Light in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios as a third-person action-adventure that looks to be providing a typical Bond dose of gadgets, combat, and (as we’ve seen) plenty of sideways driving action.
It will run on their Glacier engine and promises the kind of freedom we’ve come to expect from their previous work. While they don’t have a background in driving (or drifting) games, the initial signs look promising.

Throughout the game, you’ll meet familiar (slightly younger) faces like M, Q, and Moneypenny, plus new characters including Bond’s mentor Greenway.
We’ve already been treated to plenty of mountains, swanky hotels, nightclubs, business conventions, and beaches in the trailer, and that’s likely just the start.

007 First Light is set to launch sometime in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. PS5 Pro owners will get treated to enhanced visuals with 60 FPS in Quality Mode thanks to PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
IO Interactive hopes this kicks off a trilogy, and they plan to reveal more details regarding First Light at Summer Game Fest 2025, where we’re also hoping to hear the first details about Forza Horizon 6.
