Takumi’s Initial D AE86 Is Close To Becoming A LEGO Set
Table of Contents
Creator ‘GT_BrickCarHub’ has built an incredible LEGO replica of Takumi Fujiwara’s tofu-delivering, touge-shredding Toyota AE86. Now, he needs your (totally free) support for the model to have a chance of making mass production.

The story behind the creation of Takumi’s LEGO AE86
Like many of us, it’s clear he’s a huge fan of Initial D, and is trying to make his own dream come true (as well as ours!).

“As a fan of both LEGO and automobiles, I have long dreamed of owning a LEGO version of the AE86. Therefore, I took it upon myself to create this AE86 model.”
Fully-functioning details
The (approximately) 1:12 scale model features a 16-stud width, and while it looks cool as it is, it also comes equipped with plenty of awesome additional features and details.
Opening doors, hood, and trunk
With the doors open, you get a peek at far more than you’d expect to see inside.
A ‘functional’ steering system

The interior details are incredible, complete with an e-brake, shifter, pedals, and even a functional steering wheel!
Trueno’s pop-up headlights

Let’s face it, no Initial D AE86 should be complete without the headlights, as the series revolved around Takumi’s nighttime Mount Akina tofu deliveries.
Thankfully, the Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX’s pop-up headlights are also functional.
A tasty surprise in the trunk

We’ve saved the best ’til last – upon opening the functioning trunk, you’re greeted with Takumi’s next tofu delivery!
Support the project for free – ‘LEGO Ideas’ explained

This initial ‘beta’ design of Takumi’s AE86 was built by ‘GT_BrickCarHub’ using his own parts.
With enough support, it will be considered for perfected real-world production, using his inspiration. All you have to do is register for free and click the ‘Support idea’ button on the LEGO IDEAS website.
The website explains: “LEGO Ideas is where you have the power to turn your dream LEGO® builds into real-life, 100% official LEGO sets!”
As we see in this example, “…fans can submit their own LEGO set concepts and become a Fan designer.”
Why the Takumi AE86 needs your vote

Currently, the project lacks sufficient support, which, once again, comes at no cost for you as a potential ‘supporter’.
LEGO states, “Builds in this category need your support! If a Product Idea gets 10,000 supporters from our fan community, it gets considered for production as a real-life LEGO set.”
Currently, it has fewer than 1,000 supporters, so it needs more than 9,000 more to stand a chance of making it to production, and every little helps.

If you think this could potentially make the perfect gift for yourself or a family member one day, we highly recommend taking a moment to register.
We’d love to walk into the local toy store and see Takumi’s 86 sitting on the shelf, which is why we’ve already registered our vote!
