BMW Unveils The ‘Ultimate Drift Machine’ M2, And It’s Coming To Drift Masters

You’ll likely remember Red Bull Driftbrothers driver Elias Hountondji’s 7.0-liter V8-powered BMW E30 from back in the day. Or, perhaps more recently, the brothers’ M4 Competition builds.
Eli’s now back with another new one-off BMW, and it’s sicker than ever.
Unlike the pair of M4s, which made only brief competition appearances, this M2 is prepared specifically for the task at hand.
The one-off build, dubbed the ‘BMW M2 Drift Competition’, will be pushed to its limits at Europe’s top drifting competition, the Drift Masters Grand Prix (DMGP), with Eli behind the wheel.
But before that, what better way to unveil the new weapon than for Eli to push it to its limits on the factory floor at BMW’s main plant in Munich?
Check out the BMW M2 Drift Competition viral video, featuring some insanely impressive cinematography:
In the clip, BMW states, “The vehicles shown do not correspond to the standard BMW M series vehicles.” Meanwhile, a fan jokes in the comments, “Finally, the real BMW M2 CS-Lightweight.” If only!
BMW shows Lambo how it’s done
Earlier this week, we saw Lamborghini show off the new Temerario’s drifting potential, with their Chief Technical Officer drifting through the grounds of their HQ.
BMW takes things up a few notches by trusting Eli’s proven sideways skills as he navigates his way through the production line with pinpoint precision on the factory floor.
Admittedly, the setup on this one is slightly more drift-focused than the stock Lambo, though!
The specs behind the beast
The unique M2 is built specifically for Eli’s return to Drift Masters with support from BMW’s very own M team, further proving that some of the most significant automotive manufacturers are getting more serious than ever about competition drifting.
“Drifting in the BMW M2 Drift Competition through the BMW factory, it’s the Holy Grail of the whole of BMW AG” – Elias Hountondji
Under the hood lies a 1,100-horsepower, 922 lb-ft of torque BMW S58 twin-turbo inline-six. With a stunning custom-built widebody with quad roof-exit exhausts, it certainly has the looks to match.
It reminds me of the initial renders of the M2 released before launch, where it looked insanely thicc.
You can check out the full interview with Elias over on bmw-m.com, where he dives deeper into the viral video, the unique aspects of the build, and where we’ll see the M2 compete in the future.
Hopefully, it looks like we should get to see it running the walls at Drift Masters in 2026!
