Summary

Clicker games have exploded in popularity in recent years, but we never thought we’d see it make its way into a drifting game… until now.

Screenshot – Sideways (and tandem) action like you’ve never seen it before! Drift Clicker brings a fresh take on the ‘clicker’ style game in this fast-paced drift racer where you’ll get to slide quirky and unusual cars.

In Drift Clicker, rapid tapping matters more than racing lines. You’ll tap as fast as you can to build up as much speed as possible, then after you launch into the high-intensity race, you’ll need to steer in an attempt to stay on the road, and ram your opponents into the air whenever you catch up to them. The fuel system keeps each event interesting and unpredictable, since both you and your rivals can run out mid-race when you least expect it.

Between races, you’ll get to spend your earnings on upgrades alongside keys to open containers to unlock new cars and wheels. There’s a huge variety of new rides on offer, from clearly influenced JDM classics like the Nissan Silvia and Skyline to F1-style open-wheelers and chunky trucks.

Screenshot – The typical carnage of the start line, where you’ll want to click with all your might to have the best launch possible. An early lead can be a huge advantage, so make the most of it.

The low-poly visuals keep things lightweight, helping it to run smoothly on any device (including mobiles and tablets), and the constant luck of the draw with getting new upgrades and unlocks will likely have you wanting to unlock the full garage. While it’s far from a serious sim drifter, it’s a fun addition to the usual drifting games for anyone after something fast and casual.

Physics

Don’t come here expecting Assetto Corsa-style physics. Drift Clicker is a pure arcade racer, and the main focus is on clicking as fast as you can as the car swings sideways into every corner.

Drift Clicker - Image 16
Screenshot – You don’t need to worry about being a drifting expert in this game, but it helps to avoid going off the road with simple steering inputs, as doing so slows you down.

Your job is to keep it from flying off the road (while ramming your opponents) as you click for speed, rewarding quick reactions and fast fingers rather than worrying about advanced real-world drift techniques. We’ve got plenty more drifting games that focus on this aspect, if that’s what you’re after.

If you’d rather actually have something more realistic and closer to a sim drifter that you can play in your browser, Drift Hunters MAX sits at the other end of the scale, where you’ll get grippy, predictable physics and full control of a huge selection of cars. It’s the perfect way to refine your skills before returning to the likes of CarX or even Forza later.

Graphics

For a free browser game, it looks great. The low-poly world is funky, cartoony, and well-polished, with cars that clearly prioritize fun over realism.

Slippery Drift Racing has a similarly slick look if you want another browser game with crisp arcade visuals, this time paired with proper Initial D-style touge runs if you get bored (or tired) of the rapid clicking and simplicity of Drift Clicker.

Drift Clicker controls

PC/laptop/Chromebook

  • A/Left arrow – Steer left
  • D/Right arrow – Steer right
  • Left mouse button/Space – Click as fast as possible to build speed

Mobile/tablet (iOS/Android)

  • Tap the screen to accelerate
  • Steer with the on-screen buttons

Like all of our mobile games, Drift Clicker plays perfectly on phones and tablets in your browser.

If you like your drifting stripped-back and simple, another popular one-button drifter, Drift Boss, and its circular spin-off Drift Donut are great alternatives worth checking out.

How to play Drift Clicker

Initial setup

The game throws you straight into a quick intro that instantly has you tapping like mad and cranking up the speed. In the first corner, it’ll show you how the (A and D) steering works, and sends you drifting into the city before you’ve fully worked out what’s happening.

Screenshot – Be sure to set your nickname, and go with the best settings your device can smoothly handle.

Up in the top-left, you’ll spot your cash counter, sitting on a depressing zero for now. Once the initial carnage is over, the ‘Settings’ menu over in the top-right is worth opening early to set a nickname, sort your sound and music, and tweak the graphics to suit your device. For the moment, the garage and race buttons are both locked, so your only job is to start earning.

Getting started

Drift Clicker - Image 19
Screenshot – You’ll be thrown into the craziness immediately as your car explodes after hitting a fuel tanker and gets launched into the air. Unfortunately, your fancy Audi R8-style car gets replaced with a (slightly less impressive) Mini Cooper.

Early on, your starter car gets dramatically totaled in the intro clip, and a phone-style message pings up to hand you a replacement (think race manager bossing you about, except he rarely shows up). It’s a fun bit of madness to set the tone and kick things off, and it’s the sort of thing you’d expect to see in our stunts and crash games.

Drift Clicker - Image 20
Screenshot – When you’re in the main menu, you can play the minigame by clicking your car and building up your initial earnings. You can continue to do this after, too.

However, from there, it’s all about the clicker. You need to tap the mouse or batter the Space key as fast as you can to build speed, fuel, and the cash for upgrades. You can even sit in the main menu, clicking away to bank money and refine your clicking skills before you race.

Drift Clicker - Image 21
Screenshot – Once you’ve done enough clicking to upgrade the speed (you only need to upgrade it once), you’ll unlock the race mode.

It’s all a little confusing at first, thanks to the unusual fuel-and-clicker combo, but it soon clicks into place. Your first real goal is the speed upgrade, since buying it unlocks the race button and gets you earning properly.

If you decide all this fast tapping isn’t for you, but you like the concept, Tap Drift takes a Guitar Hero-style approach to drifting, where the controls are just as simple, but you’ll need to manage perfect timing with the button instead.

Racing, rivals, and boosters

All of the races are short, crazy, and over in a flash. You click as fast as you can the whole way to keep your speed up, steer to keep it on the road, and don’t get distracted from the goal when your fuel tank empties – keep clicking to get back to it as soon as you can!

Run the fuel dry, and you don’t stop, you simply slow to a crawl while it refills (but clicking faster speeds that up), and you’ll notice your rivals face the same problem. So, if you fall behind, don’t panic. You’ll often think you’ve got no chance of catching up when you suddenly swing back into the lead when your rival unexpectedly splutters to a halt near the line.

Screenshot – A quick look at the sheer variety of rival cars and wacky locations on offer.

If you want to make the most of the boosters on offer, you can watch a short ad to unlock the speed boost or energy boost at the start of each race.

Every opponent has a target on their back (literally). Smash it hard enough, and you’ll send them cartwheeling through the air while you slide past. Just remember you’ve also got a target on your back, too!

If you’ve enjoyed the ramming into the rivals part of this game, Survival Race turns that into an online free-for-all where you’ll jump off collapsing platforms and boot rivals off the edge to be the last man standing.

As you progress through the (many) levels, you’ll tear through cities, suburban streets, and courses with an F1 pit stop in the background. You’ll occasionally get speed boosters that fire you forward in a sudden blast, much like the nitrous in Racing Master 3D, another beginner-friendly arcade racer where you’ll need to drift and swerve around various hazards in a race to the finish line.

Drift Clicker car list

Drift Clicker - Image 23
Screenshot – You never know what you’ll be up against next, and you’ll be able to unlock all of these as you progress through the game.

There’s a solid selection of 20 cars to unlock, with plenty of variety. You’ll spot the styling inspiration behind the low-poly cars, from F1-style single-seaters and sleek drifters to a low-poly Godzilla (Skyline), cheeky hatchbacks, old-school Ferraris, and big trucks thrown in for good measure.

Drift Clicker - Image 24
Screenshot – This F1 vs this super cool old drag racer certainly isn’t your typical drift tandem!

There are several silhouettes of JDM legends lurking, but you won’t be able to simply purchase your favorite rides. You need to earn them.

Garage, crates, and upgrades

Drift Clicker - Image 25
Screenshot – The faster you click, the quicker the spin. You’ll then need to hope for the best.

Each time you win a race, you earn a key to a container, which you crack open with (you guessed it) more frantic clicking to spin the reel faster. You’ll either unlock a mystery fresh car or a set of wheels, and any wheels you win can be bolted onto any ride you own.

Drift Clicker - Image 26
Screenshot – Ugh… More wheels. But, it’s not always the case, and (as you can see) these wheels provide a performance boost rather than just a visual upgrade.

You’ll find yourself bagging way more wheels than cars, so expect a healthy wheel collection while you keep your hopes up for the dream ride. This aspect of the game will remind fans of the slot-machine aspect that powers Escape Road 3, where you spin for a shot at one of dozens of getaway vehicles.

Cash, meanwhile, goes towards three upgrades, and you’ll need to decide how you’ll spend it. Fuel buys you a bigger tank, speed makes the car quicker, and income boosts the payout with every click. Income is the boring-but-smart choice, where the compound interest soon funds your fuel and speed much quicker over the long haul, even if it’s nowhere near as exciting as cranking up the speed immediately.

The earn-to-upgrade aspect will feel familiar to any drifting fan from games like Deadly Descent, where you can put your coins towards upgrades that take you from a nippy AE86 to a tank-like pickup or a twitchy R34 Skyline before going up against other drivers in a crazy downhill race. It sounds easy – we assure you it’s anything but!

Advanced tips & tricks

Click like mad on the start line (and the rest of the way!)

Drift Clicker - Image 27
Screenshot – Once you unlock the new power zones (seen on the gauge in the top center), you know you’re clicking fast enough. But don’t let that be an excuse to start slacking until you reach the finish line!

Hammer the button as fast as you can right as the race begins to launch off the line with a big speed boost. Get a strong enough head start and rivals will struggle to catch you, let alone ram you.

Think about your priorities when it comes to upgrades

It’s tempting to keep pumping cash into speed from the start, but if you focus on income early on, it’ll give you a much bigger boost on every future payout. So, be sure to spend some money upgrading it early, and you’ll be able to afford everything else far quicker down the line.

Don’t stop tapping when the fuel tank empties

While you might feel like giving it a breather will replenish the fuel quicker, the opposite is true. The main priority doesn’t change – clicking the button as rapidly as possible is the solution to everything in this game, and before you know it, you’ll be back on your way and (hopefully) cruising to the finish in first place!

Treat it like the arcade racer it is

Don’t lose sleep over perfect drifting lines. The steering is super forgiving, and the fastest possible clicking is what really matters. If the fast arcade pace suits you, we’ve got a massive roster of other racing games for you to check out next.

Drift Clicker FAQ

Can I play Drift Clicker on my phone?

Yes, it runs well on both iOS and Android devices in your browser.

How do I unlock new cars?

Win races to earn the keys to containers, then click fast to spin the reel to reveal your prize. You’ll get either a car or fresh wheels, so you may need to keep racing if you’re hoping for a new whip.

Why does my car keep slowing down mid-race?

It has a limited-sized fuel tank (which can be upgraded). Once it empties, keep clicking as fast as you can to refill the tank, and you’ll speed back up. The faster you click, the quicker you’ll be able to get sideways again.

What should I upgrade first in Drift Clicker?

Buy the speed upgrade first to unlock the racing mode, then funnel some initial cash into income so the rest of your upgrades arrive quicker. After that, decide whether you feel speed (go faster) or fuel (drive for longer without running empty) should be the priority.

Does Drift Clicker have multiplayer?

No, each race is against AI opponents rather than real players.

Do I need to watch ads to progress in Drift Clicker?

Not at all. However, ads can speed things up with bonus boosts like auto click and extra fuel, but you can easily progress without them. If the game freezes at any point, try turning off your ad blocker.

Is Drift Clicker actually a drifting game?

It’s a loose, arcade take on drifting. Unlike most drifting games, the sliding mostly takes care of itself. It’s more focused on fast clicking, ramming, and fuel management than requiring any real drifting skills or knowledge.
