Summary

From the creators of Drift King, Drift Hunters Pro delivers an awesome free online multiplayer drifting experience while focusing on the best cars and tracks Japan has to offer.

You’ll get to hit up the touge mountain roads and slide behind the wheel of iconic JDM legends like the Nissan Silvia S15, Toyota Supra MKIV, and Mazda RX-7 FD as you tandem and battle with your friends across six exciting locations.

Choose whether you want to rip hairpins on the snow-covered touge, shred tires around shipping containers at the dockyard, or navigate the twisty turns of the city streets.

When you’re ready to head to the free online multiplayer mode, you get to tune and customize your ride to get it looking just how you want before bashing doors with your friends in the public and private lobbies.

One of the great things about Drift Hunters Pro is that any points you earn for showcasing your sideways skills become credits, making it quick and easy to earn plenty of cash to buy your favorite cars and unleash their true potential.

Made by Freezenova (the same team behind the popular Drift King and Drift Rider games), Drift Hunters Pro is the perfect option for those who can’t get enough of the Japanese drifting scene.

It’s important to note that (despite the name), Drift Hunters Pro is not part of the Drift Hunters series by Ilya Kaminetsky, which includes the following official Drift Hunters games:

However, it has to be said that the physics aren’t too dissimilar from those of the classic DH games, which don’t feature online multiplayer. The closest you’ll get is MAX’s online leaderboards. So, realistically, this is the closest browser game that lets you play with your friends online.

Drift Hunters Pro features

  • Release date – 2023
  • Difficulty – Beginner/Intermediate
  • Levels/environments – 6 tracks
  • Number of vehicles – 10
  • Vehicle customization/upgrades – Yes
  • Multiplayer – Yes
  • Mobile – Yes (iOS and Android with on-screen controls)
  • Developer – Freezenova

Physics

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 25
Screenshot – The track is perfect for smooth tandems. Or, if you’ve got several of you, consider doing judged battles.

The drifting physics feel fairly realistic, with a ‘sim-lite’ vibe that’ll feel familiar if you’ve already played Drift Rider. You’ll still need to pull off advanced drifting techniques to master the game, rather than full-blown arcade-style slidiness.

You’ll notice the cars have decent grip, making them predictable, but they can often lack power unless you keep the momentum or give it a nitrous boost. Unlike some drifting games with more forgiving physics, it rewards smooth inputs and planning your lines ahead.

Graphics

Drift Hunters Pro’s clean visuals bring highly detailed, unique car models and decent-looking tracks. The graphics run smoothly across all devices, from high-end PCs to mobile browsers, without sacrificing the visual appeal of seeing your widebody S15 kick up smoke through the mountain passes.

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 26
Screenshot – Whoops! You’ll soon see the war wounds appearing after a few too many door (and barrier) taps.

There’s minor damage, where you’ll get dents and scratches after hard impacts, but no real mechanical damage that affects performance.

If you want serious crash physics, you’ll want to check out our stunts & crash games collection. Two of the most popular picks are Beam Drive Car Crash Test Simulator (for BeamNG-style crash physics) and Deadly Descent, which is a bonkers high-intensity downhill racer, where your car falls to pieces in a race to the finish.

How To Play Drift Hunters Pro

Initial setup

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 27
Screenshot – The main menu explained. I may have got a little too excited with the car upgrade pre-screenshot, though.

When you load the game, you’ll see the main menu, with your starter car, a Honda/Acura Integra DC5, already in the garage (with a rear-wheel drive conversion, of course!). You’ll also notice a generous 25,000 credits in your account from the get-go.

Press the left and right arrow keys to browse through the available cars you’ll soon be able to unlock. If you’ve got your eye on something specific, you can check the price tag and start saving right away.

The ‘Garage’ button in the bottom-right corner takes you to the tuning and customization area, while the H (High)/M (Medium)/L (Low) text in the top right lets you toggle the graphics (which can also be changed in-game).

Getting started

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 28
Screenshot – Going downhill on the snowy mountain track is great for sustaining a long drift even if your car is lacking in power.

Hit ‘Play’ from the main menu, and you’ll see the six available tracks, all unlocked from the start. Each preview gives you a good idea of what to expect, but you can easily return here when you want to try an alternative location.

Choose your track, then decide between ‘Single Player’ or ‘Multiplayer’. Single player is perfect for learning the physics and earning credits if you want to unlock a new car or upgrades before you head online.

When you’re ready, Multiplayer lets you create a private room (where you choose your nickname, track, and room name) or join existing public lobbies to drift alongside other players.

Once you’re ready to get sideways, you’ll see your current score, speed, and nitrous meter on the HUD. Points rack up as you hold drifts, with longer drifts rewarded with higher credits. The longer you maintain angle and speed, the faster your score (which converts to earnings) climbs.

Game modes

You have two choices in Drift Hunters Pro:

Single Player mode

This is ideal as a testing ground. Pick any of the six tracks, and you’ve got the whole place to yourself to practice your best drift lines, test your car’s setup, or just rack up credits in peace.

There are no objectives or time limits to think about, just open-world drifting freedom. It’s perfect for getting familiar with each track before jumping into multiplayer lobbies where you’ll be dodging other players.

Multiplayer mode

The main attraction is Multiplayer, which lets you drift alongside your friends or random players online.

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 30
Screenshot – Pick your choice of map, or create a new lobby – your call.

You can create a private room by entering your nickname, choosing a room name, selecting your preferred track, and pressing ‘Create Room’. Then, share the details with friends so they can join your session.

Or, you can join public lobbies to meet other like-minded drifting enthusiasts. The lobby browser shows you which map each room is running (the map numbers correspond to the track order from the track selection screen).

Drift Hunters Pro Car List

You’re gifted a free car at the start (Honda/Acura Integra DC5), but you also have 25000 credits in your account, which goes a long way in this game.

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 31
Screenshot – Things don’t always go to plan when you’re cruising with the homies.

With the free credits, you can upgrade your ride immediately if you wish. Alternatively, you can consider using the cash to upgrade the DC5 to something a little more impressive from the following list of legendary JDM cars (along with their prices):

This means you can choose from 6 cars with your 25000 right away. There’s a great selection, with some featuring epic widebody kits in stock form.

Unlike Drift King, which focuses more on rare supercars and hypercars, and Drift Rider, which features SUVs and old-school classics, Drift Hunters Pro is undoubtedly the ultimate choice for JDM car fans.

If your dream car is just out of reach, jump into single player and stack some points. Thankfully, the game is generous when it comes to earnings, so you won’t need to grind away for hours.

If you want to take JDM experience to the next level, Drift Race Simulator offers a more hardcore sim-based approach with a (compulsory) manual gearbox and physics that feel more realistic than Drift Hunters Pro. The car list focuses on similar 90s JDM icons, making it a natural next step if you want to test your skills with more demanding mechanics. Unfortunately, there’s no online mode, though!

If the limited car selection in Drift Hunters Pro leaves you wanting more, Madalin Stunt Cars 3 gives you 34 vehicles unlocked from the start, along with open-world stunt arenas and the same online multiplayer enjoyment. There’s less focus on drifting and more on ridiculous stunts and pushing cars to their limits with your friends.

Upgrades & tuning

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 32
Screenshot – You’ll soon get familiar with this screen.

From the main menu, hit ‘Garage’ to unlock your car’s tuning and upgrade potential. This is where you transform your bone-stock cars into drift weapons.

Upgrades

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 33
Screenshot – Maxxing out the upgrades and getting the RX-7 sittin’ pretty!

Five upgrade categories are available, each with four tiers of improvements:

  • Engine (more power)
  • Turbo (quicker boost delivery)
  • Gearbox (faster shifting and acceleration)
  • Handling (improved steering and grip)
  • Weight (improved power-to-weight ratio)

Important – your upgrades don’t transfer between cars. So, if you max out your S2000, then buy an RX-7, you’ll be starting from scratch with the rotary. Spend your credits wisely and consider committing to building one car properly before moving to the next.

Tuning

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 34
Screenshot – You might want to raise the suspension a bit (or choose a different car) if you’re heading to the city, or you’ll likely smash into the curbs.

Within the tuning section, you can carry out comprehensive suspension adjustments and fine-tune the brakes and turbo with the following options:

  • Front Height
  • Rear Height
  • Front Camber (Note that the -/+ symbols are the opposite way round)
  • Rear Camber (Note that the -/+ symbols are the opposite way round)
  • Turbo Pressure
  • Brake Balance (Rear/Front)
  • Brake Pressure

Turbo pressure adjustment is unique to Drift Hunters Pro, and you won’t find this in the Drift King or Drift Rider tuning menus, providing extra control over the power delivery.

You can use your mouse to rotate around the car in the garage to check out your setup changes from different angles to get the perfect drift car stance.

Styling & customization

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 35
Screenshot – That’s better!

Once you’ve got your car driving how you want it to, it’s time to give it a sick redesign and make it look like a true drifter.

Paint

The paint booth gives you access to a full color palette, with literally any color you can imagine. Full body resprays cost 300 credits.

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 36
Screenshot – Choose from (literally) any color you can think of.

Hit ‘Wheel Color’ to paint your wheels separately from the body. Want hot-pink wheels on a matte-black S15? Go for it. Wheel resprays only cost 150 credits, so experiment freely.

Wheels

You’ve gotta ditch those stock steel wheels immediately!

There are 16 different aftermarket wheel designs to choose from, each costing 2,000 credits. The selection ranges from classic mesh designs to modern split-spoke styles, giving you options whether you’re building a period-correct AE86 or a modern widebody S15.

Drift Hunters Pro tracks

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 37
Screenshot – There are six tracks, each with its own unique elements, and they’re all well worth checking out.

The six tracks on offer offer a wide variety of options, from technical mountain roads with endless barriers to a city and a dockyard where you’ll need to weave around shipping containers.

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 38
Screenshot – The sparks fly as the RX7 clips the curb.

City – Drift Rider fans will recognize these city streets with tight and twisty corners and big curbs, which are unforgiving if you’ve opted for lowered suspension

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 39
Screenshot – Drifting around the heavy machinery reminds me of Iron Drift King (Drift Masters).

Dockyard – Big, wide-open spaces along with plenty of shipping containers, making it ideal for practicing high-speed entries and big angle (as long as you don’t crash!)

Touge – A classic mountain pass also seen in Drift Rider, with steep elevation changes, barriers lining both sides the entire way, and picturesque scenery

Snowy Touge – The same mountain layout as above, but this time in winter, and covered in snow, reducing traction and making the car much more slidey

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 40
Screenshot – Old school vs. new school tandems.

Race Track – A smooth tarmac circuit from Drift King and Drift Rider, with the same flowing corners that are perfect for online tandems and battles, or racking up big earnings quickly

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 41
Screenshot – No, you’re not dreaming, this seemingly endless touge is heaven on… browser?

Huge Mountain Touge – The most popular track from Drift King returns, bringing the enormous touge which climbs up (or down) a gigantic mountain with hairpin after hairpin. You can easily lose sight of your friends here, because it seemingly goes on forever. This is where most online lobbies congregate since it offers non-stop tandem, train, (and crash!) opportunities.

There’s no nighttime mode here, but if that’s what you’re after, make sure you check out UNBOUNDED, where you get to meet up with your friends online, before cruising and drifting on the nighttime neon-lit streets with stunning visuals.

Advanced tips & tricks

Manage your nitrous carefully

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 42
Screenshot – Throwing down big angle on the downhill, with an added dose of nitrous, and an S15 playing catch-up.

The cars can easily get bogged down on uphill sections, especially if you haven’t fully upgraded the engine. So, you’ll want to save your nitrous for when you really need the power to maintain momentum uphill or to quickly initiate a drift on faster corners. Unlike Drift Rider, you’re not given unlimited boost for maintaining the sideways angle.

Focus on distance over angle

Since Drift Hunters Pro doesn’t allow combo scoring (unlike Drift King), you’re rewarded more for sustaining long drifts rather than linking multiple short ones. Prioritize smooth, extended slides through the bigger corners instead of trying to drift every tiny opportunity.

Choose your upgrades wisely

Drift Hunters Pro - Image 43
Screenshot – You’ll be clipping the guardrails to perfection in no time.

When upgrading real-world drift cars, we typically recommend doing the brakes and suspension first. However, given the cars’ limited power in Drift Hunters Pro, it’s worth focusing on the Engine and Turbo upgrades first before moving on to the rest.

Drift Hunters Pro FAQ

Is Drift Hunters Pro the latest game in the Drift Hunters series?

No. Despite the name, they’re made by completely different developers. Drift Hunters Pro is from Freezenova (the team behind Drift King and Drift Rider), while Drift Hunters MAX is a Drifted exclusive made by the original creator, Ilya Kaminetsky.

Can I play Drift Hunters Pro on mobile?

Yes. It’s fully optimized for mobile browsers on both iOS and Android devices. You’ll use on-screen buttons instead of keyboard controls, and it runs smoothly on tablets and phones.

Can I play online in Drift Hunters Pro?

You can. Click ‘Play’ from the main menu, choose ‘Multiplayer’, fill in your nickname, then join or create a room. Then, share the details with your friends so they can join your session.

What’s the fastest way to earn credits?

Focus on long slides rather than trying to rack up combos with transitions. The further you hold a clean drift, the faster your earnings will climb.

How does this compare to Drift King?

Both games are made by Freezenova and are near-identical. However, Drift King features combo scoring and focuses on rare supercars and hypercars. Drift Hunters Pro has no combos and focuses exclusively on 90s/2000s JDM drift cars. The physics differ slightly between the two games, so it’s worth seeing which one you prefer.
