Drift X Driving Car Game

Summary

Drift X is a beginner-friendly streeto playground where you’ve got very little grip (in a fun way) and nine pre-modded cars all seemingly fitted with a Wisefab lock kit, (even the Dodge RAM!). You can throw down massive angles (or backies) on nearly every corner before catching it with comical amounts of countersteer as you slide through the busy city traffic.

The tires kinda feel like you’ve got McDonald’s trays under them (we’ve all been there), but the weight transfer makes the skids surprisingly fun once you stop fighting the steering. Each drift score converts straight into dollars to put towards unlocking the (bargain priced) cars in the showroom, before heading back out for wall runs, 360s, and ramp sends.

The content is a bit thin, with only the free-roam mode (stunt wouldn’t work properly for us). Unfortunately, there’s no tuning, upgrades, multiplayer, or objectives, but it’s perfect for those looking for a quick lunch-break hoon session.

Physics

Every car feels super drifty without needing to mess around with dialing in the perfect setup. The grip is so low that even the lower-powered cars slide around nicely, and you’ll soon notice the front wheels smash into both sides of the lock stops as you steer.

The handling isn’t super realistic or predictable initially, but the endless sliding and fun weight transfer makes it much more entertaining than you might think once you get used to it.

Once you learn to ease off the throttle occasionally and apply plenty of countersteering, you’ll start to get a feel for it. You can go full send into the corners with massive angles, let the rear swing past the expected point of recovery, then use the full-lock to pull it back. Once you get the hang of it, big backwards entries and 360s soon become unusually easy to pull off.

If you fancy something a little more realistic, our drifting games collection has plenty of other options. Unreal Drift Dubai is ideal if you want snappier oversteer, more demanding weight transfer, and a “built not bought” tuning garage.

Graphics

The large city looks decent, although the surrounding buildings, beaches, sea, trees, and shopfronts are fairly basic. Decent tire smoke gives the big drifts some drama, and the camera options include a bird’s-eye view that it’d feel like if a police helicopter was tracking you. (Given your sideways antics, it’d probably be justified!)

Traffic makes the streets nicely busy, with plenty of cars to slide around. School buses and other random vehicles occasionally seem to have arguments and crash into each other, and police cars mind their own business, even if you use them as a clipping point. There’s no pedestrians to worry about, and smashing into things won’t damage your ride (you’ll want to check out our stunt & crash games for that.)

There are a few minor bugs/glitches, where you’ll sometimes spot white boxes near vehicles, along with menu typos such as “UNLOAK” and the wrong kind of “Brake/Break.” However, they mostly add amusement rather than causing issues.

The mouse handles various actions such as entering cars while on foot, calling for a drop-off on the phone, and using the in-game menus.

Some of the smaller buttons can overlap or respond inconsistently, so careful taps help. We’ve also got a wider selection of mobile games when you want to give another touchscreen-friendly option a try.

How to Play Drift X Driving Car Game

Initial Setup

When you first open the game, you’ll claim the opening $100 daily reward, enter your name, and press Save. You can leave the age field blank (no idea why it needs that!). Your name and balance then appear along the top of the main menu, while the Daily Reward shortcut shows when the next claim is available.

Open Settings before driving. Here, you can fully adjust the Music and sound, and the graphics begin on Low. It’s worth trying Medium or High if your device runs the game smoothly.

The Garage sits beside Settings and shows each car’s Handling, Speed, Brake, and Torque ratings.

Getting Started

The free Jeep Wrangler is waiting when you load into the city (on foot!). You’ll need to use the WASD keys to walk up to the door and use the on-screen icon to get in. Any other cars you unlock will also be found around the starting area, while cars you abandon remain wherever you left them in the city.

Your phone can deliver one of your owned cars to your location when you ring for it, but it was a bit hit-and-miss during our testing. If it doesn’t work, open the menu and choose Restart, you’ll return to the starting area with every unlocked car waiting there again. This isn’t Grand Shift Auto, so you can’t steal traffic vehicles, unfortunately. The school bus would be a fun candidate if you could!

Drifting lets you rack up your score quickly (based on meters drifted), which converts straight into cash money (even if you crash). There’s no combo multiplier to worry about, so you can concentrate on long slides if you wanna earn big bucks. You can also link perfect sequences around the traffic cars and make up your own clipping points, just don’t expect bonuses for doing so.

Game Modes

Although the menu offers an unlockable Stunt option, we couldn’t get it to work any differently to the Free Roam mode. So, in our mind, there’s just one game mode, but don’t let that put you off, as it’s still great fun.

There is a ramp button in both game “modes” that instantly drops a huge ramp directly ahead of your car. The first use is free, then later ramps require an ad, so check it’s where you want it before you click. It’s a fun excuse to wreak even more havoc, but it doesn’t turn Drift X into a full-blown stunt game. You’ll want Madalin Stunt Cars 3 for that, where you get more than 60 unlocked cars from the start, three huge maps, giant stunt spaces, and online lobbies where your friends can join the chaos.

So, the goal is to have fun hooning and drifting around the massive city, improve your drift skills by using traffic as clipping points, and inventing other fun challenges. Wall runs, close passes, and scenery impacts work well since collisions cause no damage.

When the fixed setups and single sandbox have run their course, Drift Hunters MAX is the ultimate step up. Its larger garage, detailed setup work, Drift Attack and Freestyle modes, and endless street drifting mode (again, with traffic) provide you with endless things to do. You’ll need to prepare for a bit more grinding than this one, though!

Alternatively, if you’d rather try a game where your car properly crumples on impact with BeamNG-style physics (but in your browser) Crash Game: Physics Machines is the most popular choice among Drifted fans. You can even slide around (or into) the police vehicles without them being bothered, amusingly.

Fuel is another ad-supported limit. Let the tank run dry and the refill prompt asks you to watch a video. Swap to another owned car before the gauge empties and you can avoid that refill entirely.

Car List

The quirky, random garage contains nine recognizable (but unlicensed) rides, ranging from sports cars, an EV, and even a pickup. Each one arrives with a fixed pre-modified look.

Cars are cheap, and the main menu offers $1,000 for watching an ad. Each locked car also has an ad-supported unlock option. You can open the full garage in a few minutes if you don’t mind the interruptions, which lets you sample the weird stuff quickly.

The chunky-rimmed Wrangler is an unusual starter, and that and the RAM are surprisingly great picks for learning. They’re both slower than the sports cars, still have the same huge angle kits, but they’re a little more forgiving, which provides a great chance to learn the twitchy steering. You don’t often get to drift a pickup (or RWD-converted 4×4 for that matter), either!

At the other end, the “expensive” Mustang (still a total bargain) is surprisingly fast and very easy to launch into the nearest piece of street furniture.

If you want more cars, Urban Car Drift Game is a near-identical offering with double the cars. It uses a strikingly similar open-city structure (with plenty of crazy ramps and obstacles), fixed modified cars, and forgiving angles, but expands the garage to 18 vehicles and throws damage into the mix. Urban came later and credits a different developer, but it seems to be a near-identical game.

Advanced Tips & Tricks

Use the quirkier cars to get used to the drifting physics

Use the Jeep, or buy the RAM 1500 TRX early-on and use their slower pace to learn the physics. The same generous angles as the faster options give you more time to practice the weight transfer and recovery without the speed of the faster cars turning every mistake into a crash.

Swap cars before your fuel gauge empties

Watch the fuel gauge and use your phone, or enter another unlocked car while some fuel remains. Swapping early avoids the ad-supported refill prompt and keeps the session moving.

Choose wisely before placing the ramp

The giant ramp appears immediately in front of you. Point the car down a clear stretch of road before using the button, then leave enough distance to build speed instead of spawning it against traffic or a wall. You’ll still be able to place more ramps after, but it’ll come at the inconvenience of needing to watch an ad.
