Those with a passion for cars will often have thought of doing their own tuning and modifying, but this can also a daunting and confusing world to enter.

It all starts with having the right car so you need to make sure that you have a car that is well-suited to tuning and modifying.

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford the flashy cars that you see from the Fast & Furious series, so what are a few average cars that work well?

Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa is a UK favourite and one of the most common sights on the roads. This is also one of the reasons that they are such a popular car for modding – they are cheap and easy to come by at places like Imperial Car Supermarkets. This is a great entry-level car for modifying whether this is a new exhaust, new body panels or a new stereo system.

Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is a favourite in the tuning world because of the fact that it is so flexible and there are so many modifications that can be made. Not only this, but the Civic is known for its excellent handling which is key if you are looking to take the performance to the next level.

The Golf GTI first hit the roads in 1974 and has become another popular vehicle in the modification world. This is largely due to its affordability, the unmistakable hot hatch aesthetic and its excellent performance. There are also endless aftermarket parts and kits available for the GTI so it is a car which is very easy to improve and personalise.

Mazda MX-5

The head-turning MX-5 is a fantasy car to modify due to the fact that it has rear-wheel drive, it is light, it handles well and is relatively affordable which means that there are endless options in terms of modification.

This includes performance up-grades like adding more power in the form of a V8 engine, air intakes and super-chargers or aesthetic upgrades like carbon fibre skirts, spoilers and new wheels.

Any motorist looking to enter the world of modifying and tuning will need to have the right set of wheels first. You cannot go wrong with any of the above, all of which are much-loved cars in the modifying world and will give you plenty of scope whether you are looking to boost the performance and/or improve the looks of the automobile.
